The exhibition at the State Russian Museum showed recent works of Boris Kocheishvili. Paintings and reliefs, full of grotesque and subtle poetry, are recognizable at first glance and well remembered.
Reliefs are made using an original technique. Perhaps, for the first time in the history of relief, Kocheishvili managed to transfer pictorial improvisation into a solid material.
Not only Kocheishvili is a major contemporary artist, but also a poet and an author of six books. His poems are included in the two-volume Anthology of Russian Poetry 1950-2000. The very name «A Simple Summer» comes from the title of the artist’s poetry collection.
Graphics, painting, relief and poetry in Boris Kocheishvili's work flow into each other and go beyond genre boundaries. The artist is unfamiliar with conformism concerning the material. He does not follow the laws of the genre and mixes techniques, achieving a refined figurative language.
